Personal Blog

20 somethings

Hi, everyone. Welcome to my blog. Today I wanted to write about how things can change in your twenties.

I’m currently in my early twenties and all I see on my Facebook Feed is engagements. Everyone is married, getting married, getting engaged, or popping out babies. It’s weird. I’m not engaged or in a relationship and I’m pretty happy about that. What I’m not happy about is getting calls and advice from my aunt telling me to consider settling down by the time I’m twenty-seven.

Now, I graduate when I’m twenty-five and giving me only 2 years of freedom before I want to settle down is not happening. I barely know how to manage adult things. Everyone in their twenties is at a different spot. I don’t need someone to take care of me before I can take care of myself. Thank you.

That’s not the only thing that’s changing around me. People are at different staged in their career. One of my good friends dropped out of pharmacy school and is now on her way to become a Science teacher. She texted us how much she’ll miss us once she’s all moved in and although, I have not seen her for over a year, I was really sad and happy for her.

It made me realize that that’s what your twenties are about. This is the time to get out of your comfort zone and do things you never have done. For example, I have not gone on a road trip with my friends even though I really want to, so yesterday when my friend said we are going on a girl’s trip next year for Fall break, I panicked. Seconds, later, I said, “Let’s do it.” That’s what your twenties are about. Don’t worry about how you’re going to manage it, but know that you will.

This is the time to build and the time to become who you are. If you get lost along the way, it’s totally fine. Staying up at night panicking about things isn’t going to help you as much as formulating a plan.

Take our beloved characters from Monster’s University, an inspirational film from Disney. Sully and Mike went to college to become scarers. Sully got kicked out and Mike just didn’t have what it took to be a scarer–raw talent. They got kicked out, worked at Monster’s Inc. for who knows how long and eventually become what they want to be without a freaking degree. Be like Mike and Sully. Go out there and live your life. Not sponsored, but if you haven’t seen the movie, I don’t care how old you are, you have to go see it.

That reminds me. I’m going to start a podcast soon with one of my good friends. I have no clue how it is going to work, but I know it’ll be fun. I’ve also started this blog because I wanted to for a long time.

I encourage you to start something and see where it will grow. Tell me about your 20 somethings in the comments below! As always, I love you guys, and thank you for your support! 🙂
